Pascal Comelade & Marc Hurtado - Larme Secrete

Pascal Comelade & Marc Hurtado - Larme S...

Pascal Comelade was born in Montpellier, France. After living in Barcelona for several years, he made his first album, under the name of Fluence, influenced by electronic music and by the group Heldon. Since 1980 Comelade releases music under his own name. Ever since, his music has become more acoustic and is often characterised by the sounds of toy instruments, used as solo-instruments or as an integral part of the sound of his group, the Bel Canto Orchestra. Marc Hurtado is one half of the experimental French duo Étant Donnés. Active since the end of the 1970s, the group has released several albums, also collaborating with people like Alan Vega, Lydia Lunch, Michael Gira or Genesis P-Orridge. Hurtado has also released several solo albums under his own name, again collaborating with various artists, and has toured with Lydia Lunch celebrating the music of Suicide. Larme Secrete is the first time that Comelade and Hurtado have collaborated. Larme Secrete is the sound of an electric sho...

Phil Minton & Dieb13 - With, Without

Phil Minton & Dieb13 - With, Without

Phil Minton is a jazz/free-improvising vocalist and trumpeter. He is a highly dramatic baritone who tends to specialize in literary texts: he has sung lyrics by William Blake with Mike Westbrook's group, Daniil Kharms and Joseph Brodsky with Simon Nabatov, and extracts from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake with his own ensemble. Minton is perhaps best known, however, for his completely free-form work, which involves "extended techniques" that can be as unsettling as they can be mesmerising. His vocals often include the sounds of retching, burping, screaming, and gasping, as well as childlike muttering, whining, crying and humming; he also has an ability to distort his vocal cords to produce two notes at once. Dieter Kovačič aka Dieb13 is an Austrian improvisational musician who mostly works with turntables. Since the late 1980s he has been experimenting with cassette players, vinyl records, CDs and harddiscs. He has a duo with Billy Roisz which combines electronic music with experimental f...

Charles Hayward - Crossfade Estate

Charles Hayward - Crossfade Estate

Crossfade Estate was a special, distinct project. It was made in November 2005. Recorded in 10 hours. Edited, mixed and collaged over 18 months. It was a development of Charles Hayward's long term relationship with The Albany in Deptford, London. They asked him to push their recently installed digital recording suite and see what he could make. The approach was a step further from the series Accidents+Emergencies which Hayward had curated in the late 1990's. It was a pulling together of different musics and strategies and the resultant material. Hayward thought of it like a soap opera, with characters reappearing in different combinations and in different scenarios, the market square, the living room, the mechanics' garage. But instead of people, themes and riffs and rhythms so that the music was constantly at the crossroads, at intersection points of its own devising. Charles Hayward, Ashleigh Marsh, Nick Doyne-Ditmas, Sean O'Hagan, Rob Mills, Orphy Robinson, Chris Cornetto, Sharon Ga...

Konstruktivist - Seventh Soviet Symphony

Konstruktivist - Seventh Soviet Symphony

Originally released in 2009. Konstruktivists was formed by Glenn Michael Wallis in 1982 out of the ashes of Heute, a kraut rock influenced trio using electronics as well as conventional guitars and bass. Around this time - in the late 70's / early 80's Glenn Michael Wallis was heavily involved with Throbbing Gristle, the U.K. pioneers of "Industrial". The first Konstruktivists vinyl album A Dissembly was issued in 1983. This was quickly followed by their seminal LP Psykho Genetika after signing to the newly-formed Third Mind records. At this point Glenn also moonlighted as a part-time member of Whitehouse - playing live with them in several countries and participating on their LP Great White Death. 1984 saw the release of Black December, a more rhythm-oriented album, and the year after the Chris Carter produced masterpiece Glennascaul. After a seven year hiatus, the band returned on World Serpent with the album Forbidden and the club hit single Tic Tac Toe. With Mark Crumby joining in ...

Uz Jsme Doma & Randy - Moravian Meeting

The show on this album was performed in Olomouc, Czech Republic, at the Moravian Theatre, in the year 2010. The Ceasar gallery organized a retrospective exhibition called “The Residents Residence“ in Olomouc. The exhibition contained art, constumes, masks and other artefacts of The Residents and Už Jsme Doma were asked if they could create their own versions of The Residents’ songs, and play them to support the exhibition. As Randy, the Residents’ singer, was invited for the opening and staying in Olomouc for a couple of days, it was a good opportunity to have him on one stage with Už Jsme Doma. 13 songs were chosen, partly by Miroslav Wanek and partly by Randy. Miroslav turned the original arrangements into the UJD sound with full respect to The Residents style and mood. He was able to use his own experience with this kind of work – in 1981, during the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, he discovered recordings of The Residents and covered them with the punk band he was then involved...

Hula - Voice

Hula were founded in Sheffield in 1981. Three members (Mark Albrow, Alan Fish and Ron Wright) lived with Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire) and Paul Widger (They must be Russians, Clock DVA, The Box) in a villa called Hula Kula. After trying the bass players Alan Watt and Chris Brain (Tense, NOS) Hula recorded the impressive debut album Cut From Inside with Mark Brydon (Chakk, Moloko). Ingredients like cut ups, steady rhythms, and paranoia vocals were blended together into a unique white funky sound. Murmur was the band's second album and came out on Red Rhino in 1984. This was also the time of Hula's great singles - Fever Car, Get the Habit and Walk on Stalks of Shattered Glass were all released around that time. These two long players were followed by an ambient album called Shadowland and a live double LP entitled 1000 Hours. Voice was to be the band's last album and came out on Red Rhino in 1987. It is a much bigger and cleaner production than its predecessors and was produced an...

Regular Music - Regular Music

Regular Music were early instigators of the UK post-systems movement whose work straddles the spheres of rock, minimalism and post-punk. The band was formed in 1980 by composer/performers Helen Ottaway, Jeremy Peyton Jones and Andrew Poppy who met at Goldsmiths College in SE London where they studied music in the 1970s. Rather than wait for commissions they looked to models such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Gavin Bryars and Michael Nyman who formed their own ensembles to play their music. The first Regular Music concerts took place at the ACME Gallery in Covent Garden on 20 and 21 June 1980. On the programme were works by Poppy and Peyton Jones as well as works by Morton Feldman, English Experimental composer John Lewis, Phillip Glass and Maurizio Kagel and among the performers were flautist/saxophonist Geoff Warren, violinist Alex Kolkowski, tuba player Dave Powell and pianist Alex Maguire all of whom were fellow ex-students from Goldsmiths or Royal Holloway College. Bourbonese Qualk - Hope

Bourbonese Qualk - Hope

Bourbonese Qualk were an experimental music group from England who where active from 1979 until 2003. The group were always obsessively and uncompromisingly focused on controlling their work – they ran their own record label, recording studio, tour organisation and music venue (the legendary ‘Ambulance Station’) – they refused to integrate into the commercial music racket turning down publishing deals from major labels – stubbornly opting for total independence. Bourbonese Qualk were also known for their political activism which was formed in the crucible of the 1980s Britain: The Miner’s Strike, Falklands/Malvinas war, Anti-fascism, Thatcherism, Moneterism, squatting/housing, local government corruption, anti-capitalism, and Anarchism – which was further re-enforced by touring Europe and meeting like-minded groups and organisations. They saw their music as a revolutionary cultural force – a belief that radical musical forms must be part of positive social change. Despite this position...

Jac Berrocal, David Fenech, Vincent Epplay - Ice Exposure

Jac Berrocal, David Fenech, Vincent Eppl...

Premiera: 29.04.2020Jac Berrocal is a 1946-born musician (trumpet player), poet and sometime film actor who came of age in the ‘70s Paris improv scene, where the boundaries between music, art and theatre were porous and begging to be breached. Inspired by bebop, chanson, free jazz, beat poetry, early rock ‘n roll and myriad Eastern influences, and with an iconoclastic, anything-goes approach to instrumentation and technique that would later align him with post-punk sensibilities, Berrocal blazed an eccentric and unstoppable trail across the underground throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, both solo and as part of the Catalogue group he co-founded. During this time his uproarious performances routinely wound up jazz and rock audiences alike, but earned the admiration of many musicians: Steven Stapleton invited him to perform on two Nurse With Wound albums, and other notable collaborators in his career include Sunny Murray, Lizzy Mercier-Descloux, Lol Coxhill, Yvette Horner and James Chance. Legendary Pink Dots - Kleine Krieg (2CD)

Premiera: 29.04.2020The Legendary Pink Dots are an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band formed in London in August 1980. In 1984 the band moved to Amsterdam, playing with rotating musicians and having, as core members, singer/songwriter/keyboardist Edward Ka-Spel and keyboardist Phil Knight aka The Silverman. The band was originally called "One Day..." but subsequently changed the name to The Legendary Pink Dots, apparently inspired by pink dots on certain keys of the band's main recording studio piano. In the 1980s the band released albums on Mirrodot and In Phaze; in 1985 they signed with Play It Again Sam for the release of The Lovers. Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, industrial, psychedelic folk, synthpop, post-punk, progressive, jazz, noise, pop, and goth rock, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise...

Newson was the band’s second album released in 2001 and is long sold out. It is less rhythmic than more recent works and has instead a very haunting dark ambience with eerie sound effects. Etant Donnes - L'Opposition Et Les Cases...

Premiera: 09.12.2019Etant Donnes is a French duo named after Marcel Duchamp's last major work. The group consists of brothers Marc and Eric Hurtado, born in Morocco and working mainly as performance artists and musicians. Their sound can be described as a mix of field recordings, found sounds and sometimes whispered, sometimes violent vocals. They describe their sounds like this: "Through Marc and Eric, it is the volume of each word that becomes an object-sculpture, together with the power of their bodies expressing their voices. Each event is a scream - indeed even the glissando - of the strength of the word that sometimes abruptly becomes a rock, a solid surface, not in the least fluvial, as is the narrative of a tale, novel or poetic epic. With both of them, there is no more trace of ancient prosodies, no more trace of the incomprehensible Sainte-Beuve who could claim: "I have to collect a volume of prose". The word, the voice, the volume take shape with each other, unveiling a thea...

Fred Frith is one of the most important musicians of our time. He was born in Sussex, UK and now lives in California, USA. He first came to attention as one of the founding members of the English avant-rock group Henry Cow. He was and is also a member of groups like Massacre, Art Bears, Skeleton Crew or Cosa Brava. In 1974 Fred Frith released his landmark album Guitar Solos, a glimpse into what he had been doing with his guitar. V/A - The Godfather Of Odd - A Hardy Fox...

Hardy Fox grew up in Texas. After college he moved to San Francisco reveling in the free love days of 1967-68. He co-founded the much loved cult band, the Residents, where he was primary composer. The Residents recorded such groundbreaking albums as Eskimo, Duck Stab, Commercial Album or Fingerprince and continue to inspire, record and tour until this very day. They aren't only known for their avantgarde music, but also for their multimedia CD ROMs and their DVDs. Throughout the group's existence, the individual members have ostensibly attempted to operate under anonymity, preferring instead to have attention focused on their art output. Much outside speculation and rumor has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, the group appears silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tails—a long-lasting costume now recognized as its signature iconography. In 2015 Hardy retired from the band, and two years later identified himself as the band's co-founder and prima...

Since the late 1980s he has concentrated on solo projects and collaborations, including Massacre with Bill Laswell and Fred Frith. His first solo record, Survive the Gesture, was released in 1987. Since then, he has released 10 more long players, and has been touring with the reformed This is not This Heat. The Residents - Snakey Wake

The Residents met Philip Lithman in 1969. They became immediate friends and began playing music together. Snakefinger participated in many Residents projects with 1986 being a particularly good year for their working together. Plans were made to tour again in 1989, but fate decreed otherwise. While on a European tour, Snakefinger died on July 1st, 1987 in Linz, Austria. He was buried in London, and many of his friends in San Francisco found it difficult to accept a death so far from home. So The Residents organized a party, a wake. They arrived in black with black net wrapped around their bodies and each carried an open black umbrella. They went to their instruments without introduction and played a series of old English laments and Hank Williams' "Six more miles". This newly remastered CD presents you the studio version of this special performance (as issued by UWEB in 1988) plus the whole recording of the live performance which was previously only available as a digital download. Konstruktivist - Psykho Genetika

Psykho Genetika is Konstruktivist's greatest record and one of the best classic Industrial albums of all time. Recorded in 1983 after Last Moments of 1923 and A Dissembly, it came out on Third Mind Records in the same year. Sadly, this outstanding album didn't get the recognition it deserved, due to lack of promotion and funding. The sounds on this record were so extreme that they couldn't be pressed onto a vinyl album, so it was first heard as it should be in 1993 when it was re-issued on the band's own Jara Discs label ten years later. That compact disc edition is hard to find nowadays and fetches collectors' prices if it shows up at all. Therefore, we are happy to present you this new edition, digitally remastered in 2019 and with a live bonus track. Snakefinger - Manual Of Errors

Snakefinger - Manual Of Errors

Snakefinger surely needs not much of an introduction. Born Philip Charles Lithman in London, he moved to San Francisco in 1971. His roots lie in the British blues scene, but he soon became friends with The Residents who also gave him the name Snakefinger based on a photograph of Lithman performing, in which his finger looks like a snake about to attack his violin. In 1972 Lithman returned to England and formed the pub rock band Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers. After the lack of success of the second album, he returned to the states and work on his first solo album began. Both "Chewing hides the Sound" and "Greener Postures" were co-written with The Residents. His third solo effort, "Manual of Errors" still came out on Ralph Records, but it was mostly written by Snakefinger himself. A couple tracks were collaborations with the Eyeball ones again and some cover versions also appeared. As with our previous Snakey re-issues, "Manual of Errors" will feature lots of bonus tracks again a...

O-bay Scooplaws was one of the thousands of bands whose dreams were smashed like a Peter Townsend guitar. "We planned to leave for California at midnight hoping for lighter traffic and avoidance of the excruciating heat the Southern Route is so famous for. But it was nearing 2:30 and the truck still did not have the drum set loaded. There was a nervousness in the air. Our parents had seen us off hours ago, telling us to be careful, the usual things they say when they finally accept that they no longer have any say in what their children are going to do. He took up the cello while an undergraduate at the University of Virginia and studied with cellist Pablo Casals' student Luis Garcia-Renart and later with vibraphonist Karl Berger. During this time he formed his own group, The Moose Skowron Tuned Metal Ensemble and began constructing instruments for it. In 1979 Cora moved to New York City where he worked with Shockabilly guitarist Eugene Chadbourne. He performed at improvising clubs and venues in New York with John Zorn, Fred Frith, Butch Morris, Wayne Horvitz, David Moss, Toshinori Kondo and others. Cora also collaborated with George Cartwright and Bill Laswell which led to the formation of the art rock band Curlew in 1979 . Cora remained with Curlew for over ten years and appeared on five of their albums. In 1982 Tom Cora and Fred Frith formed Skeleton Crew...

Fred Frith & Hardy Fox - A Day Hanging D...

Dostępne od 12.04.2019"It began in Big Sur. Fred Frith and I, sitting naked on two small wooden blocks, legs crossed, hands resting on our knees. A small clearing on a rise above the Pacific Ocean, waves pounding a steady beat against the rocks far below. I had arrived at the Zen retreat the previous afternoon and Fred was one of the first people I ran into. I’d met him in more formal situations at Ralph Records, but we had not previously hung out socially. Fred was the current artist-in-residence at Esalen, and had been there nearly six weeks. He’d invited me to join him in an "air bath" the next morning and so here we sat, bathing in the morning sea air. The glow of Fred's skin made me sadly aware of how much time I spent in a windowless studio. I could easily pass for an albino. Fred was not big on talking, so we sat in quiet contemplation. But soon I became aware of a humming sound and realized Fred was singing quietly to himself accompanied by the rhythm of the waves. I whispered,...

The Residents - Daydream B-Liver

The Residents - Daydream B-Liver

"Daydream B-Liver" was released by The Residents' Fan Club UWEB in 1991. It's an assortment of music from the years 1971 to 1991. The oldest material is a recording of a live show at The Boarding House in '71. The Residents were assisted by Snakefinger for the event. Then there is three tracks from the "Stars & Hank Forever" sessions that were not used on the original album. "Daydream In Space" was recorded by the band especially for this compilation. It is a nod to Sun Ra and Barry White. "Dog Glue" is an unused snippet from the "Baby King" music used on "The King And Eye". The 1990s are represented by music from the "Freak Show" and "Cube E" sessions, including a live rehearsal for a German TV show. The song that gives the album its title (apart from it being part B of "Liver Music") is a cover version of The Monkees' hit single of the (nearly) same name. As a bonus, we have included the "Special Almost Dance Mix" of "Hit The Road Jack", a song that The Residents recorded in 1987...

The Residents - The Delta Nudes

The Residents - The Delta Nudes

Before The Residents became the Residents, they were a group of friends from the San Francisco bay area. On this collection, a lot of different people are involved. No one remembers how many or who they were. The recordings were made in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Some of the people bonded into The Residents. Some of them did not. Four albums were recorded by these Pre-sidents: The Warner Bros Album, The Ballad of Stuffed Trigger, Rusty Coathangers for the Doctor and Baby Sex. None of them have ever been released. Now finally, on this collection, you can hear music from those pre-Residential days in remastered quality. The Cryptic Corporation released a first version of this album in 2013. The limited edition of only 300 copies sold out immediately. Now, Klanggalerie are proud to present you a new and remastered version of this CD - with the addition of three bonus tracks and a new front cover Pore No Graphics! The Residents - Disfigured Night

The Residents - Disfigured Night

Over the years, The Residents have been so prolific that it's easy to see that a year could have simply vanished and gone unnoticed. And one did - 1997! In the early to mid 90's, The Residents were quite active in the creation of CD-ROMs, releasing Freak Show, The Ginger Bread Man, and Bad Day on the Midway from 1992-95. So much time was devoted to writing and designing the CD-Roms that, other than some soundtrack music for the game and a short side project, Pollex Christi, no music was recorded in 1996. Having lost so much time on a dead concept, 1997 finally arrived, but the new year was not so happy. For the first time in decades, The Residents had absolutely nothing in the works. 1997 was born dead. And truthfully, the year never got much better, but the group did begin moving in some interesting new directions. Creatively, The Residents saw Pollex Christi as a successful experiment, consequently they decided to follow it up with another highly experimental, classically styled piec...

Between June 1999 and May 2000 Ralph America posted several Residents MP3s on their website. Shortly afterwards, these exclusive pieces were collected on a limited edition CD entitled Dot.Com. Klanggalerie are proud to present you an updated version of this album, remastered and with new artwork by Pore Know Graphics. In 2013, a new sub label of Ralph was started, Radio Thoreau, on the official Residents website. Radio Thoreau presented a collection of recent Residents tunes "fixed" by Charles Bobuck into a more radio friendly form: singles. All material was submitted to iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Google Play for an undefined period. Five of these reworkings are collected here, including one which was never released to the public. Full track list (not final running order though): 1. The Sour Song 2. 1999 3. Ninth Rain 4. Marie 5. Wanda 6. Conceiving Ada Titles 7. There's Blood (On The Bunny) 8. Paint It Black 9. My Window 10. The Residents - Strange Culture/Rivers of Hades/Haeckel's Tale (2CD)

The Residents - Strange Culture/Rivers o...

Residents music from 2007: Strange Culture (OST): In 2007, Director/artist Lynn Hershman-Leeson heard of a strange situation of an artist being arrested as a bioterrorist due to the fact that his “art” used harmless mold. She gathered a number of friends to make a film to bring more attention to the artist’s plight. Among the friends were Tilda Swinton and The Residents who had worked with Ms Hershman on her previous film, Conceiving Ada. The Rivers of Hades: An aural art piece, Chaos Is Not Just A Theory, was written by The Residents in 2007 to accompany the release of The Residents toy figures designed by Steve Cerio. The sound installation was not included in the final gallery presentation, however, and the essence of the much larger project was reduced to this piece, The Rivers of Hades. Haeckel’s Tale: The Showtime Channel has a long running horror TV series, Masters of Horror. The season included a Clive Barker story, Haeckel’s Tale. The Residents - I Murdered Mommy!

The Residents - I Murdered Mommy!

The Residents' soundtrack to a never completed CD ROM game. The 1990s saw The Residents release a series of groundbreaking CD-ROMs. Freak Show was followed up by interactive album Gingerbread Man and then role playing game Bad Day On The Midway. All of these stood head and shoulders above the drivel which increasingly clogged the CD-ROM market and all featured Residential music as an integral part. I Murdered Mommy would have been no exception. Inscape, the company which had released Bad Day, had some reservations with the proposed concept, "an interactive game based on the fantasy life of an emotionally abused 13 year old boy" but as the previous title had sold well they green lighted the project. Unfortunately, shortly after this the aforementioned mountain of inferior titles plus the limitations of the medium (poor capacity) caused the bottom to drop out of the market and Inscape went with it. Musically, all that was left of IMM were some "sketches". In 2004, The Residents took thos...

OK, we know you all waited for this a very long time, but now the wait is over. We are happy to be able to present you a special 2 disc edition of Title In Limbo including the legendary 4 Daze! Many of you have heard about this legendary recording for a long time, now over 35 years after its recording it is made available to the public for the first time. Title In Limbo is an album that was recorded with The Residents in San Francisco in 1981.The bands played a very experimental jam session together and went back to these recordings 2 years later, in 1983. Title In Limbo finally came out in November of that year on vinyl. 1998 saw the first complete CD release as a numbered limited edition on Ralph America, copies of which are scarce and now collectors’ items. But that CD differed from the vinyl in that some tracks had short fade ups applied to them which did not truly reflect the original release. So we are excited for the first time on CD to now offer this album re-mastered with all ...

The Residents - RMX

The Residents - RMX

The Residents are fiddlers. Not fiddle players, just fiddlers. They like to play around and see different ways their songs could sound. They call this RMX. Some say RMX stands for "remix" but with The Residents, who knows? While the RMX concept is mostly associated with two album projects (The King and Eye RMX and WB:RMX), The Residents had also tinkered with individual songs. These were released as free streaming tracks on the band's official MySpace page (yes, they had one). In 2007 most of these tracks were collected in a compilation simply titled RMX, first made available on iTunes. Never before have this tunes been available on a physical release, so we are now glad to present you RMX as a CD including two previously unreleased rmx's! New cover artwork by Pore Know Graphics. Full tracklist: 1. Icky Flix Theme 2. Kaw-Liga RMX 3. Blue Rosebuds RMX 4. Teddy RMX 5. Picnic In The Jungle RMX 6. Jelly Jack - The Boneless Boy RMX 7. He Also Serves RMX 8. HARDY FOX - Rilla Contemplates Love

HARDY FOX - Rilla Contemplates Love

Hardy Fox used to be composer for The Residents. He left the group when he didn't feel fit enough for touring. Since then, he has released many albums under the name Charles Bobuck, switching to his real name Hardy Fox when his albums became more personal. The first, self-titled and also known under the name Heart, is a study of the young Hardy Fox, an album about Love. The second, Nachtzug is about his last days touring with The Residents. After a break from recording, Hardy Fox is now back with a concept album about a gorilla: "A few years ago a study was done by scientists who were really interested by the idea of how gorillas think. Work was being encouraged by the success of sign language with a gorilla named Koko, who unfortunately recently died. The new research was investigating if they could get information by working with computers directly taking information from the mind of a friendly gorilla. Rilla. Hardy Fox did not get the actual results, but did get inspired by his own ...

HARDY FOX - Nachtzug

HARDY FOX - Nachtzug

Hardy Fox used to be composer for The Residents for over four decades. He later released solo albums under the name Charles Bobuck before finally switching to his real name in 2017. After Heart, Nachtzug is his second solo album. In the beginning, this release was intended to become a TOOK release - simply releasing Fox's sketches for The Residents' Ghost Of Hope album. But this idea soon turned out to be not challenging enough, so Hardy started using his original sketches as the basis of an entirely new recording. In the end, the Night Train became such an exciting album that we trashed the TOOK idea and made it a Klang release. It's too precious to be a limited edition, too good to be heard only by a few. The inspiration came from a real train journey, says Fox, towards the end of his time with The Residents: "It was nothing special. I needed to be in Zürich for a show and caught the last train leaving Vienna. Eight hours of rolling down the shiny tracks. Plenty of time to think. Too...

CHARLES BOBUCK - This

CHARLES BOBUCK - This

THIS is the end of an era. Charles Bobuck became visible about the same time The Residents felt the pinch of the popularity of free downloading. They, like many bands, shifted their energy toward live performance. However, Mr. Bobuck did not like touring. He preferred making albums. So he quit touring and made albums instead. Logical. THIS is a collection of music from the many “underground” albums he independently recorded between 2009 and 2016, as well as, pieces he wrote under the nom de plume of Sonidos de la Noche, Chuck, and The Residents during those same years. THIS collection is an insight into the more personalized music which Charles Bobuck, now in his 70s, created during his final years with The Residents, a legacy addition for any record collection. There are excerpts from the albums Mush-Room, The Highway, Dolor Generar, Life Is My Only Sunshine, Coochie Brake, Postcards From Patmos, What Was Left Of Grandpa, Chuck’s Ghost Music, Roman De La Rose, God-O, Lying Horse Rock ...

CHARLES BOBUCK What Was Left Of Grandpa

CHARLES BOBUCK What Was Left Of Grandpa

"What was left of Grandpa was pretty much the same as what was right about Grandpa. He was my namesake and therefore impossible to forget, despite not being particularly memorable. What was right about Grandpa was his love of jazz, and what was left of Grandpa was his collection of 78s. Left to me, at least. He was the one who first pulled earphones over my six year old head while mumbling, "Listen to this." The headphones smelled like cigarettes. The sound, however, immediately flushed Disney tunes from my young brain. He weened me on Stan Keaton's Artistry in Rhythm and Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn. By puberty I was an absolute fan of Bob Graettinger. In high school I followed the careers of Pete Rugolo and Billy May as closely as my peers followed Peter, Paul & Mary and Ray Charles. Grandpa Charles would not think this album jazz. But I do. Here it is, What Was Left of Grandpa." The wonderful new album by Charles Bobuck, composer of The Residents. A beautiful mixes of styles, melo...

So folks.... after the deluxe editions of "Struve & Sneff" and "Songs For Swinging Larvae" we bring you the holy grail for RATL enthusiasts. The first ever release of the 1978 recordings: the "Tap Dancing In Slush" EP and the "Behind Closed Curtains" LP. Both were recorded as Plimsollline, a short-lived entity that just predated the adoption of Renaldo and the Loaf as the band's title. Arguably, the spirit of what would become RATL is very evident in this work but be prepared for some surprises as well. We know this is already more than enough to whet your appetites, but being generous we are giving you even more: a full CD of recordings entitlted "Rotcodism". These contain the earliest recordings by Renaldo & The Loaf and show a totally unknown side of the band. We recommend you order quickly if you don't want to miss out on this gem. Often called The English Residents. Tracklist: 1. Niot Cudortni 2. Catch! 3. Robot Tango 4. Cast Iron Smile 5. Skeleton Music 6. For Jane 7. Ode...

RENALDO & THE LOAF - Arabic Yodelling / Grain By Grain (For Accuracy) (2CD)

RENALDO & THE LOAF - Arabic Yodelling / ...

Arabic Yodelling was Renaldo & The Loaf's third album and their second for The Residents Ralph Records. It took two years to make and finally saw the light of day in 1983. This collection of songs and tunes describes characters, places and covert observations, although not designed to have a preconceived storyline, the songs seem to lend themselves to a picture show of the mind. Each listener is free to wander through this place, creating (or not) their own interpretation. The title comes from ‘Like Some Kous-Kous Western’. There’s a bit where Brian Poole sings something that sounds vaguely eastern or Arabic and somehow mutates into something like a yodel – David Janssen commented that it sounded like Arabic yodelling and that was filed away somewhere for future use. Around the same time, a lot of other tracks were started, but never finished. RATL now collected lots of these bits and peaces, worked on them, and for the third time we present you this release as a deluxe double CD. ...

'The Elbow is Taboo' was Renaldo & The Loaf's fourth album and was released by Ralph in America, Torso in The Netherlands and Some Bizzare in the UK in 1987. You can hear a great technological step forward immediately. Also, the list of analogue instruments played on this album seems endless. Included is one of their most popular songs, "Hambu Hodo" which was also released as a 12" single, and a cover version of the song "Boule!" by French band Ptose. Sadly, it turned out to be their last album, the split followed soon afterwards. As with the other re-issues of this great band's recordings, we offer this new and remastered edition as a double CD. "Elbonus" features not only the legendary 12" of Hambu Hodo, but also the unreleased 7" mix. SNAKEFINGER - Chewing Hides The Sound

SNAKEFINGER - Chewing Hides The Sound

Snakefinger surely needs not much of an introduction. Born Philip Charles Lithman in London, he moved to San Francisco in 1971. His roots lie in the British blues scene, but he soon became friends with The Residents who also gave him the name Snakefinger based on a photograph of Lithman performing, in which his finger looks like a snake about to attack his violin. In 1972 Lithman returned to England and formed the pub rock band Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers. After the lack of success of the second album, he returned to the states and work on his first solo album began. "Chewing Hides The Sound" came out in 1979 on Ralph Records. It includes classics such as his Kraftwerk cover "The Model", "What Wilbur?" and "Picnic In The Jungle". The songs on the album were co-written with The Residents. The music showcased Lithman's distinctive slide guitar playing and often surreal imagery. At the same time, a string of singles was released. All tracks that were exclusive to these releases a...
